Dr. Alvord’s Journey
I always knew I wanted to be a doctor (don’t ask me how because I didn’t know exactly what that meant at the time), I just didn’t know what kind, until my mother went looking for a typing job at a chiropractor’s office. It was 1977 and I was 8 years old. None of us knew what chiropractic was, much less how to say the word! I remember when she came home and told my brothers and me, “You kids need to get checked for vertebral subluxations.” My first reaction was, “Verta…WHAT???” Then I had this specific thought as a young boy in this society: There’s nothing wrong with me, so why do I need to see a doctor, much less a specialist? But it was the very beginning of my journey into understanding this new and special, but very positive thing in my life!
I saw lots of amazing things happen at my moms office while I was growing up and by the time I was in junior high, I knew what I was called to do. I went to the oldest chiropractic school in the world, where it all started, the chiropractic fountainhead: Palmer College in Iowa, where I received my Doctorate in Chiropractic in 1994. Since then, I have dedicated my professional life to restoring vital function through chiropractic care. As a result of checking and adjusting literally hundreds of thousands of spines, I have become a master at the one thing the rest of society doesn’t do, but you and your family and friends so desperately need.
After growing up with chiropractic and over twenty years in practice, I have pretty much heard or seen it all. And yet, I am more excited to help the next person today than even the day I graduated. Why? I have seen absolute miracles. I have seen things improve, that to this day, medicine still denies. It really is true that medical mysteries are chiropractic certainties.
I live in Minnetonka, but I like to say that I live in a chiropractic world. That means that I see everything around me in the light and respect of an intelligence that created everything, especially living creatures. Every day is an opportunity to learn even more, so I continued this quest to understand my work better by recently completing a three-year coursework for the DPhCS, the Diplomate of Chiropractic Philosophy Sciences. Only a handful of chiropractors in the world, (about one in a thousand), have received this accreditation on the most relevant subject in chiropractic. In my free time, I like to read, bike and play with my son Reilly.
I am one of the few chiropractors in the world to exclusively practice specific chiropractic. There is a very important reason for this. I have never wanted to be a “jack of all trades” but a master of one thing. And in a sick world that thinks more is better, that same world only gets sicker. My continuing passion is to change all that…one spine at a time, one life at a time, for a lifetime. I believe that nothing is bigger than life. I also have a selfish reason for all of this as well. I want my son to know this world just a little healthier than I did.
Call me crazy, but I think we all want that for our children.
